Why Dogs With Less Dander Are Great Pets For Allergic People

By Ruth Jones

There are a lot of allergy sufferers that will not entertain the idea of owning a long haired dog because they wrongly assume that it will cause them to have a severe reaction to them especially if they suffer from asthma. But did you know that some of these breeds of dogs are actually hypoallergenic? Dogs such as the Afghan hound or even the Yorkshire terrier are safer breeds of dogs to allergy sufferers than a lot of short haired dogs.

A lot of people that suffer from allergies such as asthma believe that they cannot own a dog because of the danger that the hair and dander pose to their allergies.

It has been proven by certain studies that many breeds of dogs do in fact shed lesser amounts of dander and pet hair which makes them quite safe for allergy sufferers as they do not pose a threat to their allergy.

This has come as fantastic news for allergy sufferers that love dogs but be warned that this does not mean that they will not cause a reaction to any allergies at all. All this simply means is that these breeds of dogs will not cause the reactions that you would usually associate with other dog breeds.

Do not be fooled into thinking that this also means that these dogs will not shed any hair or dander in you house. Unfortunately this is not the case. Dogs always shed hair and dander and you must always keep on top of it to prevent any possibility of allergic reactions.

It is the dander from dogs that actually makes people sneeze and not the pet hair itself as most people are led to believe. This dander naturally comes off when a dog sheds hair and this is where the confusion starts.

So now you know what causes the allergic reactions it is no good you looking for dogs with short hair or medium hair as pets because you think that these will affect your allergy less than others.

If you are an allergy sufferer and you would like to own a dog then try to do a background check on which dogs lose less dander. By doing this you should be able to find yourself a safe dog that will not affect your allergies.
