Canister Filtration System For Fish Tank Toxins

By Joseph Dennis

It would be hard to keep an aquarium functioning smoothly if you don't have the right equipment for the job. One very important tool for this is the canister filter. There are a lot of filtration systems in the market today and it is important that you choose a system that is convenient for you.

One such system is the Fluval 405 canister which is able to address mechanical, biological and chemical filtration needs. Let me explain the differences among the three.

If there are things that need to be removed, such as, plants, dead fish and other floating rubbish, the mechanical filtration will do the job. These things will cause a chemical imbalance if they are not taken out which may result in fish kill.

To keep the water free from toxic chemicals a biological or chemical filtration is needed. The two differs in that the biological filtration uses natural bacteria to eliminate the toxins.

When you decide on a canister filter you should read the manual or at least check out reviews about it. Obviously you don't want to be reading a book every time you want clean or do some maintenance. The Fluval FX5 makes it simple because the canister itself has self-locking snaps which makes it a breeze to open and clean.

You should always make sure that you get a decent warranty with your canister filter because they are expensive to replace. The last thing you want to end up with is a broken filter than cannot be repaired easily. Fluval is a good company because they usually offer a 3 year warranty. If your local pet shop can offer you an extended warranty then I suggest you take it. But don't get me wrong. I'm not stressing that you should get it because there is a good chance it will break. I'm stressing it because accidents happen.

The canister filter is ideal for home use since it can service just about any type of aquarium. If your aquarium already has a filtration system, replacing it with a canister filter will be a breeze.
