Robert De Niro's Greatest Roles In Years Past

By Ryan Duncan

When it comes to listing my favorite actors of all time, Robert De Niro is at the top of the list. The man has been showcasing his talent in major motion pictures for the better part of 40 years, and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. It is clear at this point in time that acting is much more than a profession for Robert De Niro, it is a way of life.

This article will highlight some of Robert De Niro's most prestigious films in which he has starred.

Probably my favorite Robert De Niro film of all time is the Martin Scorsese directed mafia film Goodfellas. This movie won the Academy Award for best picture in 1991, and with good reason. This is a true rags to riches story, and just so happens to be based on the true story of Henry Hill.

Another movie that is certainly on my top 5 Robert De Niro list is Heat. This movie is one of very few that stars both Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, probably the two greatest actors working today. This movie is directed by Michael Mann and is an absolutely incredible film.

Another film that must be mentioned any time you talk about the best of the best Robert De Niro movies is without a shadow of a doubt, Casino. This movie is directed by the great Martin Scorcese and also stars Joe Pesci. Robert plays Sam Rothstein, a very powerful casino owner who plays by his own rules out in Las Vegas.

It would pain me to make a list of Robert De Niro films without mentioning The Godfather Part II. It is hard to imagine anyone else bringing the brilliance to Mario Puzo's Vito Corleone the way that De Niro did it. This is arguably one of the greatest films ever made.

One other film that I feel the need to mention is of course, The Godfather Part 2. Based on the books by the great Mario Puzo, in part two of this mob saga, Mr. De Niro plays a young Vito Corleone, the heir to the Corleone mafia empire.

These are just some of the notable films that this incredible actor has starred in, but there are certainly many more which are worth mentioning in subsequent articles.
