Facts About Bodybuilding

By Dr Paul Johnston

When you think of bodybuilders, you likely think of a big guy with obvious muscles everywhere and virtually no body fat. When you think about it, the idea of a body builder eating dietary fat seems to go against common sense but certain types of fats are actually good for bodybuilders. The story about fat can be very complex, and at best it is not always totally clear to the uninformed. Current research is uncovering all sorts of interesting details on the subject. A lot of this research has to applicable to bodybuilders. You will see the results you are looking for when you combine knowledge, proper diet, and of course weight lifting.

The intake of fats a bodybuilder consumes or shuns should not be lumped into broad categories. Omega fatty acids 3, 6, and 9 are the particular Omega fatty acids that should be included in their diet. These acids can be found in everyday foods and provide an important biochemical process. Of course you know that saturated fats are to be avoided as much as possible. However, what you particularly need to avoid are called trans fats, and you may see the terms used interchangeably.

It's not uncommon for many body builders to start off with mistaken perceptions about the role of fats in a balanced diet. Focusing too much on completely excluding fats from their diets is a mistake that many new body builders make. The belief is that minimizing dietary fat will lower excess body fat and increase muscle development. A person who doesn't grasp the value of dietary fat as part of a healthy diet will ultimately have more difficulty reaching their fitness goals. The correct and scientific approach is to consume the proper fats in the correct amounts. Keep that in mind when formulating a health and fitness plan.

Increasing testosterone levels in your body can usually be achieved by taking some bodybuilding supplements. By eating foods with enough saturated fats, you can avoid taking supplements like this. Most doctors would not recommend increasing your saturated fat levels beyond the daily recommended level. It is a good idea to eat enough saturated fats to not only produce testosterone, but to also maintain healthy cholesterol levels. By following these dietary suggestions, you will attain proper levels of testosterone in your body without having to take extra supplements.

By following a proper diet on a regular basis, which is formed after you have all of the information necessary, you can improve your bodybuilding program. Hopefully you will become aware that you should have the proper ratios of essential fats. These ratios are based upon your overall goals and your total body weight. This particular area is typically neglected or overlooked by most amateur bodybuilders. However, this area of dietary fat is critical for achieving the best possible results.
