Why You Should Be Making a Green Quilt

By Jane Green

When it comes to quilting, there are colors we adore to use and then there are colours we seldom, if ever, use. I used to do that all the time, whenever I'd start a new project and in my head, I'd go through blues, whites, reds and pinks each time without exception.

These were always my favorite colours to work with. What I didn't consider was whether my projects would look good in colors other than this. It was only recently that I have began feeling like I was getting stuck in a rut.

After sitting and thinking about what I could do to get out of it, I realised that I never actually considered using other colors. Well, I was going to rectify that!

Shortly after that, I determined to start a new quilt with a color I had not used before. After some deliberation, I made a decision that my next quilt would be a green quilt.

I tell you what, that was one of the best choices I had made in a while. While I made quilts in other colors, there were such a lot of different quilts that worked better as green quilts.

It was also so easy to come up with new quilt ideas based around that color. I began with just easy green patterns and then progressed on to quilts that had plant motifs and even made a clover themed quilt as a tongue in cheek joke present for an irish friend of mine. We had a good laugh and it remains one of her favourite quilts today.

I should know, it was covering her bed the last time I went over there.

While there are a lot of other things you can do with this color, a green quilt will not just stand out from other quilts, its certain to be a favourite amongst your collection. So give it a go today!
