Physical Therapist Jobs Are In High Demand

By Adriana Noton

Physical therapist jobs including PTA jobs offer job security in addition to providing good salaries to those who get satisfaction from helping people overcome their physical limitations. The PTA performs tasks that are similar to those of a licensed therapist. Assistants help patients perform their exercises and give patients therapeutic massages. Both therapists and their assistants must have a service oriented personality because therapists and their assistants are in the business of serving those with physical limitations.

The assistant's main role is to help the physiotherapist by observing the patients and tracking patient progress and keeping accurate patient logs. The physiotherapist assistant performs clerical duties, orders supplies, and in some cases helps to manage the clinic. The assistant is an integral part of the clinic because he will be called on to help in almost every aspect of the clinic from patient care to administrative duties. The assistant must have a servant's attitude.

Therapists are licensed to help patients who have physically limiting conditions due to injury or illness through medically approved exercises and medical treatments such as whirlpool therapy. Sometimes a therapist will work with a patient for one week and in some cases a therapist will work with a patient for one year or longer given the patient's medical condition. Therapists rely heavily on their assistants when they are treating their patients because therapists have large work loads and many people are currently in need of therapy.

A PTA preps patients for their exercise routines, prepares the workout area, and cleans up the workout area when the session is complete. The assistant will take note of the patient's progress and make notes in the patient's file and will report to the physiotherapist of drastic changes in the patient's progress. Therapists rely heavily on their assistants to report improvement, stagnation, or limitations, a patient may be experiencing as soon as possible so that therapist can alter a patients exercise routine.

Pick the right PTA training because the right PTA training can open the right door to the right job in the health care industry. Most states require that a student complete an associate's degree accredited program before working in the physical therapy health care field. The associate's degree program should include biology, medical terminology, and anatomy with an emphasis in therapeutic treatment plans.

Most states require that students complete an associate's degree before taking course work related to physical therapy work. However, some states allow students to start their training in physical therapy without an associate's degree background. Some states require an associate's degree background and course work related to emergency medical techniques such as CPR before a student can sit for the state exam.

Those who have chosen health care as a career path earn very good salaries but most men and women enter the health care field for humanitarian reasons. Many people are attracted to the health care field because of the good pay and the offer of job security. But the good income is only a residual benefit the main benefit comes from being of service to people who in need and have to have help in overcoming specific physical limitations.

Physical therapist jobs and pta jobs provide job satisfaction, job security, and a good salary. There is a great demand in the health care industry because as the population ages more people are in need of health care services. The physiotherapist relies heavily on his assistant because most therapy clinics have a heavy workload and the assistant helps with patient care, insurance billing, and general office management.
