Several Quilling Techniques to Produce Different Amazing Designs

By David Becks

Quilling is the skill of rolling strips of paper around a straightforward tool to produce elaborate designs which you can use as decorative touches for most different reasons. Although quilling is rather long-drawn-out since you are working with small items, it really is one that's all too easy to learn. By combining paper quilling techniques it is possible to glue several designs together to produce a large design.

The essential of these techniques involves cutting a strip of paper about 1/8 inches wide and 3 to 4 inches in length. You need a needle or toothpick or if you would like you can get a quill. Dampen the tip of the paper, usually by licking it, and roll the strip of paper around the tool that you picked. Roll it tightly after which you can take away the tool. Enable the coil to relax a little bit but don't let go of it completely - just sufficient to allow it to expand a bit. Glue the loose end belonging to the paper with the center, so that the coil forms a circle. Pinch one side of your circle to produce the design of the teardrop. Then you can make four other teardrops and glue them together to create a flower.

Some of the standard techniques are: - Diamond Shape. To have a diamond you can either roll the paper all around the quill very tightly or have it a bit loose. Once you make the coil, pinch two opposite sides. This method is normally known as the marquis or the eye-shaped coil. - Leaf. If someone makes flowers in paper quilling, you'll want to add leaves for making the flowers feature prominently. To produce a leaf, create the standard diamond shape then pinch one or more ends of the diamond.

- Oval. To create this kind of shape of your paper strip, wind it in a very oval shape and take care to not pinch the ends. Developing the oval shape is one of the more well-known techniques. - Square. This is another shape created from the standard diamond. After you have the diamond made, pinch the smooth sides on the diamond to form a square. - Rectangle. To create a rectangle, first you need to make an oval. Next you pinch the corners to produce the form of your rectangle.

- Star-shaped leaf. To produce a leaf that resembles a star, you initially have to form a diamond. Take hold of the ends and push them in toward the center so you form two new points and you will see a curve between these new points. - Triangle. Form a loose coil to produce a three-sided shape. For making this triangle look realistic, you need to aim to keep your center as round as you possible can.
