Ideas To Play Safely And Have Fun In The Lottery

By Jed Palmer

Have you ever played the lottery? It can be a lot of fun picking the numbers, and then settling down to watch the balls being picked. You never know who's going to win, someday it might be you! But playing the lottery as a past time and becoming obsessive about it are two different things. Here are some suggestions on keeping perspective when playing the lottery.

The first rule of gaming is to never spend more than you can afford to lose. If you abide by that rule you will be able to enjoy yourself without the worry that your debts will take over your life. Don't try to come up with crazy schemes for picking your lottery numbers since the odds don't play favorites. In truth, your chances of winning a huge pot are miniscule.

If you find yourself choosing between buying groceries and buying lottery tickets you've gone too far. You need to lower your expectations and only buy tickets with money set aside after your bills are paid. If you don't you risk getting behind on your bills and what was a fun past time becomes dangerous to your well-being.

A common mistake people make when playing the lottery is to play certain numbers repeatedly. They may be a special date such as a wedding, birthday or anniversary and they have a lot of meaning to them. Unfortunately, the odds aren't sentimental.

These numbers, while special to you, have no special meaning in the lottery. Odds have shown that there will be numbers drawn larger than 31, so be sure to mix up your selections each week. You could even pick your numbers from a hat to ensure they are random.

One thing you should never do is choose the winning numbers from the previous week. This is because the odds of the same sequence of numbers repeating are astronomical and therefore virtually impossible.

Why not ask others if you think you need the help. Some people make a study of the lottery. Ask them for advice or consult some books on the subject. There are no guarantees that you'll pick the right numbers with or without help but it can make the attempt more interesting.

Playing the lottery is a fun past time for many people. They use it as a way to find excitement in their hum-drum lives and that's OK. The danger is when it becomes more than just a hobby.
