The Top Picture Contenders At The Academy Awards

By Lauren Gordon

Every movie lover is anxiously awaiting the 2010 Academy Awards. Taking place on March 7th, 2010, Hollywood will be in full force during the course of the next month.

The most famed award, the most prestigious is the Oscar, and who will achieve it this year? There are many awards ceremonies throughout the year but this one is the most noteworthy of them all and it is this one that I shall be commenting on.

The best picture Oscar is the one that we remember most each year. Every director becomes a living legend after winning an award like this, and more importantly, secures the budgets in the future to replicate their masterful works with new movies.

Ten films have been nominated this year for the best picture award so it's going to be an exciting ordeal to see who gets to the top.

While it may be unlikely that a Disney movie wins, Up was an instant classic that both critics and moviegoers absolutely loved.

Following the tale of an older man who travels the world in a balloon house hybrid around with world with a younger kid, this movie touched the hearts of millions of moviegoers around the world. Some are predicting that Up could conceivably win the award this year.

A movie that never reached the box office number one is A Serious Man by the Coen Brothers. It was loved by those that went to see the film in the latter part of 2009 and has been praised as Oscar worthy.

There is also Quentin Tarantino who gave us Inglorious Basterds. This was the movie that got Tarantino back on top form; if it doesn't see an Oscar this year, it may well get a best actor.

But Avatar by James Cameron is everyone's favorite to win this year's Oscar award as it brought something fresh to the screens of Hollywood.
